We all know that first impressions matter. And the entryway is the first thing your guests see when they arrive at your Airbnb. A welcoming entryway will help your guests feel comfortable and at home from the moment they walk in.

So how do you create a welcoming entryway?

Start with a clean and organized space

This means NO CLUTTER. 😉  And of course make sure it's sparkling clean, too. Guests will often arrive with a somewhat critical eye at first, so make sure you put them at ease from that very first glance. Be sure to add a doormat to welcome guests and keep their shoes (and the rest of your property!) clean. Wayfair has a great selection to suit every style, and you can't go wrong with this one.

Add a personal touch

This could be anything from a simple welcome sign to some gorgeous art work - and the wifi password is never a bad idea! Personalizing the entryway will make it feel more like home to your guests.

Provide essential amenities

Think about what you want when you walk in after a long day exploring the local area: Coat hooks, somewhere to kick off your shoes, and a place to put keys are must-haves for your entryway... I love these cute offerings from Etsy. Why not leave some next to the beds too as trinket dishes?

Consider the lighting

Good lighting makes a big difference to the overall feel of the entryway. You may want to add a table lamp (I've got you covered!) or some sconces to provide ambient light.

Add some greenery

Plants can add a touch of life and freshness to any space. A potted plant or two in the entryway will help to make it feel more inviting. Take a look at my guide for the best plants to choose for your vacation rental.

Use color wisely

Think about what colors will work in your entryway. Does it have lots of natural light that can take a darker paint on the walls? Can you see other rooms beyond the entryway that the color will need to tone with? And whatever you choose, definitely go for a hard-wearing, wipeable paint. This space is going to see a lot of wear and tear and you want to keep it looking its best.

So you've read all my tips, applied them, and now your entryway is a complete showstopper. Just one more thing before you go...

Don't forget the outside!  Make sure your front door and surrounding area are clean and well-lit. Some potted plants are a lovely touch here, and be sure to keep on top of any necessary weeding. And lastly, the door number or name should to be clear so your guests know they're in the right place!
